Comme des Garcons Ready To Wear Fall Winter 2012 Paris

For her Autumn/Winter 2012 collection, Rei Kawakubo, wanted to keep the sun shining.  Models marched down the runway like a series of Russian dolls aided by bold vibrant colours and oversized cuts (short, luminescent wigs included!). Jackets, trousers and three-quarter length coats were exaggerated to the max, swallowing up those that wore them to provide a comical air.

Throughout the show block colours were infused with graphic prints and thick seems; deep reds, baby pinks, lilacs and electric blues where followed by cameo and leopard prints as well as over-sized floral designs and gigantic dots. At one point, a wave of models were covered head to toe in the collection’s most complicated prints – an abundance of flowers in all shades and a one-off apple, banana and lemon combination. Suffice to say there was no time to be bored.

During the second half of the show models started to resemble children’s felt puppets – sharp angular arms haphazardly stuck onto the shoulder and skirt, enormous ensembles taking on a two-dimensional form and a final range of looks to include dresses within dresses doused in a wave of sequins. No doubt a finale to be proud of!
