Giorgio Armani Menswear Fall Winter 2013 Milan

The Giorgio Armani collection was a study on how to give robust masculine men a guardaroba of understated elegant clothing. One that highlighted the models viral silhouettes without being swallowed up by their potent physicality.

He did this first by turning to his beloved color palette of gray, black, and warm browns, and then adding a pop of color (often shades of red) to his favorite fabric-velvet.  From there Armani moved onto the shape of the ensembles. Choosing to go with broad shouldered jackets and outerwear, which caressed instead of incased the body, and fitted but forgiving, pants or blazers cut in breathable textiles designed to move easily with the body. Nubby sweaters that wove cashmere and mohair into graphic patterns in different pile weaves, or jackets crafted from a geometric quitted fabric were other ways the designer explored the idea of proportions.

At one point towards the end of the show, like a bridge in a beautiful love song, the designer sent out a group of four three-piece suits. They were striking.  Perfectly executed classical tailoring that, in an instant, crystallized for the audience why most men turn to Armani when looking to invest in a designer suit.
