Givenchy Menswear Spring Summer 2012 Paris

Riccardo Tisci plays with traditional perceptions of luxury and ice-cool masculinity like no other and has created his own language and era in the continuing story of Givenchy. In his hands street wear and Latino gang style turns deluxe and today’s collection will doubtlessly be snapped up. The motif’s (also appearing in Givenchy’s strong SS12 women’s resort collection) were military and the Bird Of Paradise flower which was printed, kaleidoscope, onto shirts, suits, lycra leggings, ties and trousers. Powdered peppermint or sun-bleached flouro also appeared. Shirts, jackets and jumpers are buttoned up, giving that precise, tough attitude that’s so now. Pool-side sandals were worn under minimal trousers and some skirts. Stars were deftly positioned on shoulders like tattoos and mesh netting appeared as textural detailing throughout. Tisci’s continuing love affair with all things Brazilian is apparent and given the cultural and natural wonderland that continent offers, one can only hope and imagine that he’s not done yet.
