Qasimi Homme Menswear Fall Winter 2013 London

Set in a narrow corridor of the Elms Lester Painting Rooms, Qasimi Homme’s preview of their Paris Autumn/Winter catwalk show was an uncanny, almost cinematic exhibition of what they do best  -updated classics with a high dose of attitude.

The audience was invited to walk between and around the immovable hollow cheeked models, who in their long leather gloves and faces covered in wet locks of hair, gave off a chill that was replicated in the clothes: dramatic military and parka coats, graphic silk jacquard suits and jackets in atmospheric hues, smooth paper leather tops and detachable shirt collars. Trousers also made for quite stark silhouettes, and came in a range of cuts, from oversized to tight, attesting to Qasimi’s skill to add an edge to otherwise traditional separates that could walk off the catwalk in a heartbeat.

Inspired by “the psychotic nature of man” and film noir classics such as The Third Man, the collection  was a commendably coherent and restrained effort of combining classic menswear staples with an elusive air of mystery and drama, so rarely seen together. Job well done.
