Sleek, unfussy design is par for the course at Acne Studios where Jonny Johansson focused on outerwear for a collection that had the softness of a morning walk along a winter beach. In his fall, the Swedish designer telegraphed a contemplative mood matched the white walls and corrugated metal plates that served as a backdrop to the collection.
Contemplative, but not moody, a feminine touch came from the cocooning effect exuded by an oversize shiny satin jacket and a soft worn-looking strong beige sweater but also by the soft palette that included the brand’s pink on a bomber jacket; he’d once explained that milky pinks, yellows and blues were typically Swedish, this is no doubt its coastal variation.
Looking like the different elements had been snatched for the purpose of going out quickly, the selection highlighted the very nature of Acne’s proposal: something for everyone. Nautical cuts, sportswear elements, even the fluffy slip-on loafers had something minimalist about them. Simple good-looking elements that weren’t meant to be together but still work when juxtaposed. Nothing superfluous remains. And that is perhaps why the brand enjoys such tremendous credits. Taken as a whole it is one message but in it everyone can find an element for themselves.
