‘Strong and fast’ were Wang’s backstage directions to his models. Sure enough, as if charging through freezing elements, Alexander Wang’s ladies sped across a geometrically laid walkway to the purposeful beats of The Prodigy’s Breathe and tough woop-woop siren’s of Nicki Minaj, Did It On Em. Even the heels had little leather speed flaps behind them!
Wrapped up and protected from the elements; outerwear and protection was the focus. Futuristic ponchos both in technical fabrics and black leather opened the show. Tapered trousers with a succession of cyber-like, thick jackets followed. Collars were high to protect against the winds. All black turned to grey marl and barely there champagne in silks and angora shrugs. Zips were everywhere. Evening tux trousers were bias cut to simultaneously fall towards the toes in the front yet stopping at the Achilles heel in the back.
Wang’s accessories were interesting: tassled patent leather loafers in silver, Bordeaux and royal blue; knee high, quilted, leather leg warmers that wrapped over strappy sandals and the clutch bags (caught in our ‘close-ups’ section) deserve a closer look. The fur trimmed sunglasses were fun as were the fur trimmed boudoir slippers.
