Christopher Bailey is having a metallic moment. His collection for next summer will be remembered for its glimmering sandals, vibrant skinny pants, day glow shirts and reflective "Splash" shades. Unfortunately the magpie effect of those shimmering pieces drew the attention away from some other eloquent ideas. The designer's continued explorations of ethnic inspired prints produced some beautiful wood cut, micro-ikat and "house of cards" diamond patterned designs that felt decidedly fresh. And dark seersucker tailored suits gave a bit of gravitas to the collection.
But if there was one item that was able to break through the retina searing concept it was Bailey's cropped bomber jacket. Cut with a funnel collar , crafted from bi-color metallic leathers or rainproof satin, the jacket gave just the perfect voluminous balance to the collection's slim suits. It will surly be on the top of every fashionista's wish list. But Burberry aims to please, so those bombers can already be purchased on the brand's website. It remains to be seen if the the metallic menswear pieces will show up anywhere other than inside the pages of glossy fashion magazines.
