Walking to atmospheric, down-tempo electronic music, rising model Arizona Muse opened the Carolina Herrera AW11/12 show with grace, wearing a slate grey, felt wool dress coat with deep Claret velvet belt. Herrera, the Venezuelan born designer who rose to fame in the 70s and 80s (she opened her New York based company in 1980) attracts upmarket clientele and in 2010 opened the CH Carolina Herrera lifestyle store to complement her flagship store, also on Madison avenue.
Luxurious materials are the order of the day at Herrera and fans were presented with forty-one looks that used jacquard, silk crepe, barganzine sable knits, bone silk, silk faille and plenty of fur sleeves, cuffs and trims. There was plenty for ladies-who-lunch to consider amongst both the day-wear and eveningwear section of the show where turquoise, amethyst and rust were themes in the colour palette.
Not just at Herrera but across the entire New York fashion week a lot of specially bred fur has been seen on the catwalks. Come next winter only sales figures will tell whether customers are ready for its widespread return.
