Celine Does Couture!
Made you look! Made you stare! While we know that Couture is part of Hedi Slimane’s plans for the expansion of the heritage fashion house at some point in the future, the Celine in question this couture fashion week was Celine Dion.

“Celine, Celine, Celine,” yelled the photographers as the legendary singer took a moment on the steps, the grey snow-filled sky of Paris looming large above her outside the Alexandre Vauthier show. Once inside, dressed in a black and silver lithe slinky dress, the photographers made their swarm around her once more. “Celine, Celine, Celine, a gauche!”
Now this, aside from the fancy frocks, is what we come to couture for.
There were, however, fewer frocks on the Alexandre Vauthier catwalk this season and those that were tended to be of the tiny puffball skirt type, the little burst of a dress ones like a life-size Christmas decoration.
The designer added into the mix lots of tailoring in tweedy sets to bring a good dose of countryside glamour to the runway, accented with glittering buckles and billowing collars and bows. Because bows have been big at couture, big bows have been big.
A glossy Mac made for a particularly nice addition, as did a ribbed high neck top teamed with a cascading sparkly skirt – if we’re talking about how couture, its wearability, fits into the everyday, this would be the answer. The most demure and “simple” (obviously it’s not, but you get the gist) of all the looks, this was the one that stood out. Which in many ways is the perfect illustration of couture and its covert world at work.

Leopard print, something of a sassy Vauthier signature, and some clown frou also featured – the latter in much the same way as we saw at Dior and Mabille, shaping up to be quite the trend among the houses.
But the show stealers were of course Celine (the other Celine!) and that ribbed high-neck top. Both look-at-me for completely different reasons.
