Chloe Ready To Wear Fall Winter 2013 Paris

Review by Jessica Michault - Editor in Chief

Clare Waight Keller took the Chloe woman back to school. However her fall/winter 2013 show wasn’t an exploration of classic school girl uniforms but rather a look at youthful attire and how to transform them into grown up pieces that don’t loose that endearing element. Clothing designes for that moment of true independence in a woman’s life when she leaves the safety of the family home and adventures out into the world, to stand on her own two feet for the first time.

That “girl against the world” situation doesn’t go away once those school years are have faded into the distance. Women still need staples that they can pull out of the closet at a moment’s notice that they can count on - their own version of that by gone uniform. This season Waight Keller gave women more than a few options found that sweet spot between childlike charm and chic.

First and foremost her outerwear was top notch. From a wool felt caban and a double face cape to a shaggy shearling coat and fur vests, the cover ups were in cocooning shapes but they still had some structure to give them a bit of rigor.

The designer hit on two budding trends of the season. The color trend- if we discount black-  looks to be tipping towards navy. The designer chose it for her feminine bib front tops, classic straights skirts, outerwear and shift dresses. And surprisingly there are quite a lot of jumpsuit options showing up in collection in Paris. Waight Keller’s contribution to this style was a one cut with a slim work shirt top, which finished out in full leg, pleat front trousers that finished with a buckle hem.

Childhood favorites that made it onto the Chloe catwalk included fluid evening overalls, pinafore dresses (sometimes with a ruffle embellishment), sweet polka dot tops and those modern day school classics sweatshirt tops and jogging pant- but cut in with graphic textural motif for the former and supple blue leather for the latter.

This collection made the concept of heading back to school seem like not a half bad idea.
