At Chloe, designer Clare Waight Keller is continuing to offer women feminine wardrobe staples in tranquil colors that don’t necessarily blaze any new fashion trails but don’t alienate anyone either.
This designer’s path is the one of least resistance. What’s not to love in a well cut blanket coat, a comfy oversized ribbed hoodie or a pair of roomy cuffed shorts? It’s when she veers off the calm yet sporty urban course that Waight Keller gets a bit lost.
Some geometric printed silk pieces embellished with lace amoebas were decidedly odd. Better were the simple creamy silk dresses and tops with arching lace circle patterns inserted into the design. Dresses and skirts covered in abstract gilded geometric shapes looked fussy when compared to one beautiful navy dress that used gold discs along the collar and down the arms to cleverly attach the garment’s long sleeves to the piece. And non- threatening leopard spotted shirts and tops felt more in keeping with the style of the Chloe girl then did the fur coat alternative shot though with stripes of yellow and red.
There is a neo minimalist movement going on right now in fashion and Waight Keller should be in the pole position to take advantage of the situation. However, with this collection she didn’t quite make it all the way to the finish line. But she certainly did give it a run for the money.
