Designer Christophe Josse is going from strength to strength with his haute couture collections. Already last season’s show was praised for his more paired down designs. And this time he once again showed a level of control in regards to embellishment and ostentatious adornments that in the past plagued his collections.

The judicious use of embellishments made it possible to appreciate the workmanship that when into the clothing. From the first all black looks that had structured rounded shoulders, playing with matte and shiny fabrics and introducing exotic skins for a touch of texture, the designer proved he was looking to create a collection of self-possessed style.

The daywear had a sculptural appeal with skirts that stood away from the body, strong shoulders, and an hourglass silhouette. When the designer moved into evening attire the shapes loosened up with flowing pleats or easy draping on dresses in muted hues accented with yellow gold metal details along the neckline or at the waist.

At 47 years old Josse finally seems to have gotten his groove back. He has left the drama of youth behind and embraced the beauty of self awareness that comes with a life well lived.
