Christophe Lemaire Ready To Wear Spring Summer 2013 Paris

As creative director of Hermès' womenswear and his own eponym brand, designer Christophe Lemaire has a double life when it comes to fashion design – this said, he so far managed to keep his "slow fashion" on both sides, and its precisely this nonchalant yet sophisticated Parisian chic that made him successful.

“I try to not follow the seasonal madness,” stated Lemaire recently. “It's wrong to force yourself to come up with a new style each season, it is just not adapted to real life. Femininity is all about a subtle and wearable elegance, mixing classical pieces and thereby creating timeless looks.”

And indeed, Christophe Lemaire's spring/summer 2013 season comes with a certain home-wear comfort, something simple yet sophisticated for everyday life situations. Lemaire normally plays with feminine and masculine contrasts, revealing the boyish side of a woman, but this time, it was more functional and casual than ever before. The scenery of the presentation itself expressed a very serene attitude that rubbed off on Lemaire's silhouettes and vice-versa. As models walked around – or took a catnap, or a tea-break – in a minimal furnished atelier-apartment in Le Marais, Paris, one could really feel the effortless spirit of Lemaire's new collection.

Men's costume inspired high-waisted trousers in denim or topstitched gabardine were paired with shirts and smooth evening pajamas in compact poplins and cotton-linen blends, while soft pleats adorned the bodice of slender, loose fitted dresses. Even the styling was all about nonchalance: Water-repellent trenches were sported easily on the shoulders, while shirts came sometimes unbuttoned and belted at the waist with a loose knot or through oversized high-waisted pants. The Matisse-inspired color palette emphasized the collection's easy-going understatement with ultramarine, amber, grass green and coral hues. What is there more to say? Lemaire produced yet again highly desirable and timeless ready-to-wear pieces, that will never get out of fashion.
