In less than three weeks the hotly anticipated film “Fifty Shades of Grey” will open worldwide. And with it will come an escalation in women wanting their men to look as close as possible to the dashing Christian Grey. In most cases, the best they will be able to do is get their men to dress the part.
Enter Cifonelli, an august tailoring house that opened its doors in 1880 in Rome and is now being run by the great-grandsons and cousins of the founder. Today the house took to the runway for the first time. Showing in the intimate setting of the Club de la Chasse et de la Nature in the heart of Paris.
Any one of the men on the catwalk could have been a Grey doppelgänger. Their perfectly tailored gray (and brown and black) suits, double breasted vests, butter-soft leather blouson jackets and slim blazers with beautifully rounded shoulders would instantly transform even the most committed couch potato into looking like a wealthy millionaire.
As for the vibrant velvet evening jackets, those were a bit daring, even for Mr. Grey. But at a time when tailoring is on the upswing in menswear, Cifonelli is very well placed to reap the rewards.
