Diane von Furstenberg Ready To Wear Fall Winter 2013 New York
Ready to party? Diane von Furstenberg is. The designer’s “Glam Rock”-themed fall collection showcased everything from pink jumpsuits and a show-stopping blue halter gown to her signature wrap dress reincarnated with a swirl of twisted chain links and an Ozzy Osbourne-approved metallic blazer leopard print pant combo.
“Life is the party,” said von Furstenberg. “Why wait for a party to bring out the clothes that exclaim?” Her proposal for everyday wear—personified by her show program that featured a gold silhouette of herself on the cover a la one of the Andy Warhols she has hanging in her studio—came in rapid fire succession much like those golden days under the disco ball at Studio 54. As “Love to Love You Baby” thumped over the speakers, giant paneled mirrors spun forward and out came model-of-the-moment Cara Delevingne in a snake flutter wrap dress that was quickly joined by a plethora of prints (Animal! Angel! Bird!) and rich hues grounded by rose gold and silver.
Her fall collection was much looser and more languid that in seasons past. Courting the PYT with the active social calendar, von Furstenberg seemed to be reliving her own colorful youth where it was leather one minute, silk chiffon the next. There was plenty of great stuff to choose from: gold lamé jackets, blazers and cigarette pants in fetish pink and dizzying black and white prints inspired by M.C. Escher. “She is forever in motion,” the designer said. “Her energy is contagious.”
