Dior Homme Menswear Spring Summer 2013 Paris

There is a bit of a battle going on for the title of “color of the season.” For the moment  orange seems to be in the lead but navy blue is breathing down its neck. Designer Kris Van Assche has clearly chosen which color he thinks should be the winner. His Dior Homme was an ode to the shade of navy. Forgoing his love of black (not a single stitch of that shade showed up on the catwalk) Van Assche went for a minimalistic take on nautical attire.

So models, with their hair slicked back, took to the runway in matching navy hued gold buttoned suits. They also showed up on classic striped Breton fisherman's sweaters and most interestingly in semi transparent voile coats cut with a pattern makers outline.

There was nothing particularly wrong with this show but it felt one note. As if the designer had come up with a concept and decided to only to brush the surface of the idea instead of digging deep and discovering how he could extrapolate out from his seafaring style.
