A slip and slide long haired goat fur shag carpet was the challenging runway facing the models at the Fendi fall/winter 2014 menswear show on Monday. But if any house can get away something like that its Fendi, a brand born and bread in the furrier business. A fact it highlighted loud and clear on the catwalk as a multitude of fur pieces came down the runway to be ruffled by wind machines as they walked by the audience.
Designer Silvia Fendi was making quite a statement with this return to the catwalk for her menswear collection. There might have been some suits, pants and tops in this show but they all faded into oblivion in the face of Fendi’s impressive outerwear options, or the fur woven sweaters that are probably so warm on their own that no jacket will ever been needed.
The show started out strong with one of those impressive fur needle punched knit sweaters that horizontally morphed from long hair side panels to a zig zag weave center and sleeve that moved from smooth to ribbed. From there it was full steam a head with one luxe fur garment after another.
Need a v-neck pull over in mink? Fendi’s got you covered. Have you been searching for a crocodile jacket with an edge? How about one actually crafted out of Neoprene. And what about a black and blue long haired marmot overcoat? You know you want one.
Winter is the perfect stomping ground for Fendi and the designer clearly had fun putting this lineup together. And if this collection looks like extreme luxury, just remember that a large portion of the outerwear is reversible. So really you are getting two coats for the price of one. Probably still not a bargain at Fendi, but it might help you sleep better.
