Giorgio Armani was feeling green- make that lime- this season. That is the take away image of the designer’s fall/winter 2014 signature collection, which closed out Milan Fashion Week.
But as Armani is a man who loves his urban shades of concrete gray, asphalt black and white, it will come as no surprise that the designer tempered that tart lime color with his favorite muted shades. In particular grey. He even called his show “Fade to Grey”.
Moving away from the dominant color story the collection was an assortment of easy separates. Boxy tops came paired with tapered ankle length pants. Staple outerwear included ombre coats that shaded from grey down to lime, roomy grey cape coats and shaggy furs were all smart winter weather options. While a slip on and go evening outfit of a loose cut shimmering tank top and matching beaded cropped palazzo pants was the epitome of casual elegance.
Anther focus for the designer with this collection, was a play with geometric shapes. Grid patterns of lime and black (or grey) made their way onto a bolero jacket and patterned tops. A more three dimensional exploration of the concept came in a number of woven black leather pieces that let the lime peak though the weave or an impressive cape crafted from lines of black beading that orbited around a slinky lime evening dress.
This collection is sure to make a woman who sees a colleague wearing almost any look from this show green with envy.
