On the last day of Milan Fashion Week Giorgio Armani took his audience under the sea to cool off from the late summer sun.
Armani already started off the day as a sartorial winner. The actress Claire Danes has garnered very positive reviews for the romantic gown she picked out to wear to last night’s Emmys from the designer’s spring/summer 2014 “Nude” haute couture Privé collection. It looked particularly good against Danes golden trophy for Best Lead Actress in a Drama.
She, and other Armani fans, will have a lot more dreamy dresses to choose from in the designer’s languid and liquid ready to wear collection. Filled with fluid tops, A-line dresses and circle skirts in layers of semi transparent silks, iridescent fabrics or watercolor prints the show existed as if viewed through the a sea of undulating water.
It was a sensation that was reinforced by the pearly gray, blue and pink tones of the clothing and the use of shimmering sequins on “submerged” bloom prints heightened the idea that part of the beauty of this collection was thanks to the light reflecting off the water from above.
The only place where this collection really stumbled was in the shoe department. No fashion following mermaid is going to trade in her tail for a pair of legs if she is forced to wear plexiglass ankle boots that finish in an open sandal at the front.
