Italian luxury brand Moncler rolled out today a new collection designed in collaboration with globally influential streetwear designer and Japanese hip hop DJ Hiroshi Fujiwara.
"I wanted to create a new standard, delivering the message that Moncler loves the mountain, which is where the story started," said Fujiwara about the 7 Moncler Fragment Hiroshi Fujiwara collection.
This message is translated through Moncler's main slogan this season: FRAGMENT LOVES MOUNTAIN, which Fujiwara emblazoned on jackets featuring the brand's signature laqué and technique nylons.
The collection also features a range of other references, such as funk band Kool & the Gang's album Spirit of the Boogie and the longitude and latitude of Fujiwara's favourite restaurant in Paris. Of note, were the Fujiwara's collaborations with British leather specialist Lewis Leathers and Converse for a Chuck 70 capsule.
In an official statement, Moncler praised Fujiwara's design approach. "By taking vintage, military, urban and tech references and tweaking them with the keen sensibility of a unique cultural agitator, Fujiwara turns the ordinary into something subtly extraordinary," stated the fashion house.
The collection is part of the Moncler Genius project, launched in 2018, which asks multiple designers to create collections for the House. "Moncler Genius extends its pioneering spirit in 2020 as it continues to enhance its exploration into new horizons," said Moncler.
Each Genius collection has a dedicated launch date, "ensuring the facilitation of personal expression that rolls out ceaselessly through the year.”
