How to Achieve Chanelegance

IT was those slingback shoes from Fall/Winter 2015 (the only shoe of the show); it was that supermarket dash of a set for Fall/Winter 2014; it was checking ourselves into Chanel airways complete with our Chanel luggage and passport and cosy long-haul travel ensemble; it was the Chanel trainers that went head to head with Dior’s spangly variation in 2014; and it’s always always been the classic quilted bag.

It’s all of these things and more that make up the world of Chanelegance. Karl Lagerfeld, you simply have the magic touch.

Chanelegance Fall/Winter 2016?

It’s taking pearls and making them anything but granny-ish and old-fashioned. Here, they were layered up into clusters to cloak the neck, dripping practically.

It’s the gloves that become just as adorned as hands would, bedecked as they were with dazzling rings and bracelets. The ultimate in conspicuous consumption and the best way to make the most of and get the most from our jewellery box trinkets (who doesn't want to show off Chanel-clad hands?)

It’s the boater-bucket hats: old-school, traditional, and charming – it’s just a matter of finding the time and place to wear one…

It’s the denim rework. Karl manages to luxe it up with vibrant tweeds and make it just as causal as it is seriously smart. That's clever.

It’s the house camellias (of course) – here worked in as an enlarged print tumbling down wide-leg trousers.

It’s the tweed, twinsets, and trenches. Here, they were spun in bright bright pink and contrasted with a deep cobalt blue.

It’s the eveningwear section we wait for at the end. Sigh. Feathers, flounce, a bow or two, and lacing around the torso featured this time. Cinderella moments to be had by all.

It’s the accessories. Boots were the mainstay – gold or black, they all came with lace-up detail around the ankle or boasted panels of that aforementioned shocking bright pink tweed.

It’s classic Chanel.
