J.Mendel Ready To Wear Fall Winter 2015 New York

By now, you know what decade inspired each show during the week, and J Mendel was included. Yes, the '70s are still here. If you didn't believe it, you could have simply listened to the soundtrack of the presentation. One of the tracks mixed in was used by Gucci for a Fall 2011 show, a brand that's constantly mining that era for inspiration.

The clothes spoke to that as well: a sexy, elegant sort of glamour girl who parties at the swankiest clubs all night but has done it enough to be up, alert and seductive as she makes her way through the next day. To wit, for day there were pieces like a trio of shirt dresses swiped with sparkles, as well as a parade of charmeuse blouses. Pleated tuxedo trousers also made a play for attention.

The strongest contender was a look that could effortlessly switch from day to night in a white jumpsuit. It was mostly very Tom Ford in his prime, manning both Saint Laurent and Gucci, but then again, wasn't he known for his infatuation with the chosen decade of inspiration?

For evening Mendel ramped things up, showing dresses long and short that whipped around the legs with high slits. Some fringe and ruffle detailing gave the impression of draping as if an oversized scarf had been carefully and meticulously wound around the entire body for a jaw dropper of a look. The trump card was in the furs, a mainstay of the brand.  Sumptuous but pared back in offerings, the options shouldered their way past the oversupply from other brands. Of the strongest of this were look 20 and look 14, both serendipitously blending a chocolate brown and passionate red into delectable coats.
