Heavy metal hair band Kiss amped up John Varvatos' fall winter 2014 show when they pranced down the runway to "Rock and Roll All Night".
Varvatos is working with the glamrock group on his new ad campaign in order to convey a sense of what he calls "a confident man who dares".
"What you wear is an extension of your sexuality," frontman Gene Simmons aka "The Demon" told Now Fashion backstage.
"I really prefer longer pieces to shorter pieces. They aren't worth wearing. They aren't masculine enough," Simmons said, referring to Varvatos' collection.
On the runway, an eerie altar of darkness was dimly alight. And while we have seen the haunted church theme at past Varvatos shows, this time Varvatos aimed at conveying a superhero sense of magic with a shimmering color palette of blacks, whites, grays and metallics - similar to Kiss' signature stage makeup.
Calfskin jackets were embossed with silver and fabric, raven like feathers serving as wings swarmed the shoulders of an exaggerated overcoat, for a theatrical rock effect.
"I liked John's silvery leather look," said lead guitarist Tommy Thayer in an interview.
"It looks very much like what Kids would wear."
Suits and casual wear were accessorized by portfolio bags, totes and top hats reminiscent of a scene from a late 1800's saloon in the Wild Wild West.
John Varvatos' dark angel style is not for everyone and this collection proved that he is not trying to please everyone.
And while he has stumped the fashion world before, maybe Simmons has finally summed him up best in the end:
"If he wasn't designing clothes, he'd be a guitarist."
