Louis Vuitton Menswear Fall Winter 2012 Paris
Held all the way down in the fifteenth arrondisement of Paris, inside the glamourous glass greenhouse of Parc Andre Citroen, the second collection by British designer Kim Jones for Louis Vuitton menswear drew large cheers and unanimous praise from the audience as he took his final bow. Crowds rushed backstage to congratulate Jones who was flanked by Vuitton womenswear designer Marc Jacobs and the LVMH team who were all present to give their support.
Beneath the gaze of a gigantic mirror-ball, forty-one models walked at a brisk pace to the electronic disco of Giorgio Moroder who had composed an excusive mix for the show. It was a moment of pure pleasure as Donna Summer began to sing “it’s so good, it’s so good, it’s so good”, the introductory lyrics to her world-wide smash hit I Feel Love. And so good it surely was. Kim Jones presented a complete sartorial dictionary of the Vuitton mans needs be it flying to meetings, casual wear, week-end attire and ski jackets. The Vuitton suit is sharp and slim cut giving a tall silhouette that’s less about aggressive attitude and more about business-like precision. The double breasted suit in a deep shade of indigo blue deserves to be a big hit next winter as does the camel cashmere long coat and the volumous cahsmere blanket jackets.
Interestingly none of the bags or accessories were emblazoned with overt Louis Vuitton logos. Kim Jones made the right decision as the Vuitton man, as shown by his designs, is all about stealth, style and high luxury. With this collection, nobody needs to be told that the clothing is of the highest standard, the materials and cut speak for themselves. Bravo
