Don't you just love when Italian designers take an American street genre and give it a makeover?
That's what Massimo Giorgetti did with the skater girls of Santa Monica, Venice Beach, and the Valley in his Spring/Summer MSGM line. And OMG it was like totally...
First, Giorgetti tackled the skater shoe, which was dubbed "Ollie" and covered in metal rings – in fact, the metal eyelets that were dangling from silk dresses and tote bags were like a gang symbol of sorts (the idea behind the red and blue bandanas worn by the Crips and the Bloods during the 90s).
Chains and metallic tassels dangled over roomy cocktail dresses in silk faille and fastened frayed linen smocks. Crisp poplin skirts and ruffles struggled to peak out beyond the rough and tumble, infusing the collection with a dose of innocence.
"Stop romanticism," read the press release. But au contraire. The LA boys on the halfpipe would definitely find something alluringly darling about this MSGM girl who can pull of ruffles and chains.
