Fashion can be quite stuffy at times but not at Nanette Lepore this season! Ending the show with two conga lines that wound their way up and down the runway, the entire presentation was kept light and breezy just like the beaches that inspired it.
In particular, Nanette looked to the beaches of California and the south of France for inspiration. She confided backstage that the thought process collection was her packing fun stuff to take a trip to either one. On the runway, that looked like a capsule collection of printed swimwear, a bright yellow sundress of almost nylon as well as jumpsuits with slits up the sides of the legs causing them to flutter past. Even the colors came from the beach: a sunny yellow, sky blues and palm frond greens. As the soundtrack repeated to us over and over -- and models filed down the runway with their hair in messy topknots with flyaway tendrils galore -- indeed, these “girls just want to have fun!”
For the last look, Nanette sent out her daughter in a black printed kaftan of a dress and a pair of the show’s tall platform heels. Though this was her first proper runway walk — she’s joined her mother for the finale bow a few times before — the high schooler looked at home, likely because of just how youthful the collections was.
