INTERIM collections, they're proving to be a bit of a thing in Paris. Lanvin showed for the first time sans Alber (Chemena Kamali and Lucio Finale steering the ship for the time being) and Dior showed its first ready-to-wear collection without a designated "name" at the helm – though we had already experienced this same set-up during couture as seven design team members took the bow following Raf Simons' departure last year. Two houses doing interim and doing it in very different ways – of course, both have their own surrounding circumstances. But where the overarching consensus is that the Lanvin offering felt very much just that, interim – with nods of the Alber DNA, but with him, his humour, charm, and focus very much missing – Dior is a different story and this was a sharp and sophisticated collection that really seemed to drill down and focus, just as the couture output had begun to do so too. There was backbone and a clear voice, and core train of thought: it cleverly straddled the lines between fresh and youthful – the Demi-gothic styling of black lips, Matrix-style shades, and little bun bunchies – and grown-up and elegant: bar jackets felt distinctly modern and were not too shapely, everything had a sense of being demure but succinct with it so that existing customers would be happy just as much as new ones would now be intrigued.

So, in a snapshot, the deal at Dior now?
Wear two handbags at a time – a whole new meaning to hands-free and looks surprisingly uncluttered and cool. Seriously.
Match your lipstick to your shades – it's worth a go! Black lips to black super-round shades made for a severe but slick approach to the new season. Do it.
Bunchies – they can work in adult life, too. The key is to pull back the hair tight so that nothing about the look says child-like and make sure they're perfect little buns, no tousled tendrils to be found here.
Peplums. Thought we'd seen the last of them? Not so. They gently made an appearance flouncing here and there to dust skirts and hems of those incredibly-tailored jackets.
Tailoring. It felt fresh and new in a landscape ode to street wear and sportswear styles, wrap detailing across the bust on occasion.
Colour punch – black with zesty shades felt new and sharp. It was orange or acid yellow to make a real point.
