Philosophy Ready To Wear Spring Summer 2013 New York

It was a strange choice by designer Alberta Ferretti to show her Philosophy collection in the Oak Room of the renowned Plaza hotel. The lush setting was totally at odds with what Ferretti sent down the runway.

Hers was a girly collection filled with tight fitting cropped pants, second skin pencil skirts and short bustier dresses in hues of bubble gum pink and baby blues.

Maybe the connection was in the fabric the designer chose for this collection. It was all materials typically used in menswear, like tie-patterned prints, pinstripes and silks whose motifs resembled those found in suit jacket linings.

It was an interesting premise; this idea of turning the ultimate symbols of masculinity and cutting them into pieces that had very lingerie like silhouettes. But unfortunately, with this collection, opposites did not attract.
