With the Prada Group as one of its main sponsors, Startupbootcamp, the leading European network of corporate-backed accelerators, pinpointed 10 startups as the next “disruptors” of the industry as we know it, the organization said Friday.
Startupbootcamp has selected the ten international teams aspiring to disrupt the fashion industry: Aoiship, Bigthinx, Gfaive, Namek, Obsess, Renoon, SKMMP, Staiy, Stylesearch, Ubique, Viume.
Prada, along with textile majors like high-end wool maker Reda, cotton-mill Albini Group and the Marzotto Group, were among the main sponsors, along with Accenture and PwC.
“Creativity and innovation have always inspired Prada Group's choices across every facet of our work. Today, more than ever, these have become essential drivers of competition in the luxury retail industry. Innovation means radical thinking: as part of this programme, Prada will truly immerse itself in an inspiring creative process, drawing on new ideas and connections,” Lorenzo Bertelli, Prada’s Head of Marketing and Communication, said in a statement in June, when Startupbootcamp first kicked off.
Over 1,200 innovations - ranging from sustainable fashion to digital solutions to optimize marketing and omni-channel sales, from AI-powered tools to predict demand and reduce inventories to blockchain systems to track products and their authenticity, were examined by judges.
Among the winners were, GFaive, a Georgia-based company that specializes in consumer trend forecasting via algorithms and social media data; India-based Bigthinx, a B2B serviced-based India-based firm and innovator of virtual body scanning and measuring tools; as well as Viume, which uses Artificial Intelligence-backed software to aide customers in the purchasing process. Style Search is an Amsterdam-based startup that uses algorithms to help users to develop their own personal style.
Some 17 international startups invited to participate to the "Final Selection Days" in Milan on Wednesday and Thursday in the Startupbootcamp campus hosted by WeWork, during which the teams pitched their ideas to more than 150 professionals - managers of the program partner companies, mentors and investors - who, at the end of the meetings, selected the teams that will join the 13-week acceleration journey that will begin in January 2020 and end with the "Demo Day" in May 2020.
