Rachel Zoe Ready To Wear Spring Summer 2015 New York
"This is how fashion week is supposed to be!" a guest told designer Reed Krakoff while in queue for the elevator at the Rachel Zoe presentation. And indeed the presentation did feel quite different than the rest of the week, squirreled away in the Penthouse of the Soho Grand Hotel, the designer taking interviews and selfies right in the midst of presentation attendees. The pace was relaxed, with passed hors d'oeuvres on hand and a patio with a beautiful view of Manhattan that made for an Instagram, ready moment.
And as for the clothes, it was Rachel through and through: glamorous options for a jet set life with vintage inspirations. This season in particular it was 60s meets the exotic locations of St. Tropez, Portofino and Marrakech. The result was typically glamorous in a palette of black, white and red with the odd print here and there. A healthy helping of tweed and sexily cut jumpsuits gave rise to thoughts of Chanel and Saint Laurent, though knockoffs these were not. Zoe's tweed came as small tunic dresses with chunky gold chains and grommets, though it did keep the frayed edges. Pieces like an eyelash dress -- presented in both a long and short version -- added a bit of kitsch and fun to the evening options.
It was the sort of collection that acknowledges that nothing new is under the sun and seemed a sort of inspired recreation of Zoe's own closet. And while for some fashion media that might not be as exciting, the line-up alongside an accessories collection of black and gold heels, sandals and dangling necklaces, is sure to sell well.
