The energy was high at the Rag & Bone show on Monday night. And the crowd looked ready to celebrate, with designers Marcus Wainwright and David Neville, this new prime real estate fashion show slot.
But instead of wowing the crowd, the duo produced a collection designed to easily blend in with their preferred urban surroundings. Nothing in the show- not a deflated silk bomber vest or the ankle length slip dresses nor the indigo cotton hemp outerwear and puddling pants, generated any heat.
But that's ok.
There are times in a woman's life when being able to blend into the background has its advantages. Turning to a contemporary utilitarian brand that doesn't rock the boat or pull focus from the woman wearing it's designs has a role to play in the fashion world.
The same could be said for the tasteful accessories in the show. There was a certain poetry about the long prayer bead necklaces and the artisanal journal notebook bags. The footwear also hit the mark, looking both stylish and practical for walking pedestrian packed city streets.
