Roland Mouret Ready To Wear Fall Winter 2013 Paris

Paris has been on Roland Mouret's mind for a while. After paying homage last season to the endless party of eighties Parisian nightlife, Roland Mouret has come to the conclusion that fashion in the city of lights talks a different talk than elsewhere, and he is examining its “dictionaire de la mode” as premises for his fall-winter 2013/2014. “It is about what Paris brings to my collections. I realize how much French codes go against the grain of trends seen in Milan, New York” said the designer backstage.

With its visual references on his mind so strongly, his inspiration was drawn from the city itself, and from one of its admired denizens, Catherine Deneuve. “But not a nice Deneuve, an aggressive one from The Hunger. She’s a little scary, a killer.” The prints continued in the quite predatory and some evoked the Seine (or rivulets of blood if one were inclined to see them that way). On his palette, contrasting blocks playing together with the prints, “the leopard is Parisian, animal prints are very Parisian,” Mouret said. “The city’s strong colors come across, that red, black, deep blue.”

The Mouret silhouette is all about the sculptural and the seasonal materials blend themselves beautifully to the kind of pliage work that he masters in the search for the perfect silhouette. Proof of this were a navy and red motorcycle jacket, the strong proportion of a boxy overcoat or the liquid ease of a leather sheath. To be fair, Mouret seems to have a head start on anyone in this regard. A collar hid –or protected? – the neck, visually reinforcing the strong shoulder line.

For the first time, bags made their entrance in the French designer's collection -two sizable clutches, a day bag (styled cross-body, as any Métro user does) and a supple briefcase- that will no doubt be as coveted as his dresses. "Since the dress, the bag is the most important element I have added" said the related notes. Add to that the moment the trousers were having, with more of them than ever before, the takeaway impression was one of urban, business appropriate attire that will seduce those who were not yet in the Mouret coven.

Whatever moment of the day (or night), Mouret has his vamp covered, everywhere.
