Roland Mouret loves a good party. Or at least the memory of Paris' golden age of frivolous worldliness, back in the days when “Le Palace” was still the glamorous rendez-vous for endless nights. “I wanted to go back to these parties in the 80s were we used to dance till 6am in the morning, feeling absolutely careless and free. All the drama of the world happens in clubs, it's a small, extravagant environment that fascinates me,” said Mouret.  It is precisely this nonchalant yet fierce attitude that built up the thread of his new collection.

While last season paid homage to the iconic “New Look” silhouette, the inventor of the “Galaxy dress” – the essential par excellence of every woman's wardrobe – proved that he has more than one trick up his sleeve.  This spring/summer 2013 collection was all about 80s Geometrics infused with a contemporary and sporty attitude.  With pitch black, amazon green, vermilion, and on-trend ivory, being the leading hues of the collection.

The very tailored pieces impressed with structured detailing, such as origami-like foldings on tube tops with neck halters and racerback dresses, anthracite and beige whorl prints on short trench coat inspired bolero jackets, and boxy, loosely fixed pockets that subtly added shape to both hips and shoulders. Graphic black and white draping on fitted jumpsuits and geometrical prints on slender pencil skirts emphasized the structural aesthetics of the collection, while cheeky slits that lengthened the models' legs and skin-revealing cutouts next to spread collars, provided a sexy tone.Pleated leather tops and dresses in burgundy and anthracite shades with asymmetrical necklines where made of soft, shimmery leather that counterbalanced the structured tailoring by embracing the models' bodies.

Finally, we can say that the hip-hop trend has also taken its toll in Roland Mouret's very French Maison, with Azalea Banks and Montell Jordan's “Let's get it on tonight” being on the show's soundtrack. “I just get my inspiration from friends and people working with me and these contemporary beats are just part of our world, part of our now, plus they put you in a pretty good mood, don't they?”, asked Mouret.  Yes they do.
