Sportmax Ready To Wear Spring Summer 2015 Milan

There is a lot to be said about summer light. Its strong, unrelenting focus makes even hard lines waver, blurs contours, bends and blends. Gone were the animal markings of Fall and Resort, and it was back to more restrained, more typically Sportmax. As a result, the design team had their work cut out for them, paring the polished lines they are know for with softer elements and graphic imprints. Tailoring is, as always, the key here.

The strict cuts of the garments was offset by the detailing, edges fraying meticulously. Knots, functional and not, softened things further on jackets. One bustier dress looked like an impossibly immaculate beach wrap. Other dresses seemed tied in haste, but fell impeccably.

Gingham check leant itself to brush strokes. When going for more directional pieces, the fraying became fringing around patches, heavily textural elements. Daring but not outlandish.

To women for whom looking polished is no longer a professional need but a lifestyle, this was the perfect low-key summer proposal. Less is more, but Sportmax is proof positive that it doesn't have to be so safe as to be boring.
