Stella Mccartney Ready To Wear Spring Summer 2013 Paris

“It feels so 80s, or early 90s,” sings Kathleen Hannah, Le Tigre's front-singer in a song called “Get off the Internet,” that was, next to some booty beats, included in Stella McCartney's show soundtrack this morning. And indeed, this sentence pretty much sums up the atmosphere in McCartney's new spring/summer 2013.

“I like to listen to music that represents today's woman”, explained McCartney backstage after her show, when model-turned-MTV-presenter Karlie Kloss asked her about her musical taste. “Clothing wise, I wanted texture reflected on light, feminine fabrics mixed with a masculine look,” added the designer.

This and of course, the sporty, hip-hop-ish minimalism made in 2012, that has taken its toll on the Parisian runways this season. Clean graphic lines and round geometries where setting the tone of this season's collection. Sleek dropped-waist dresses, boxy bomber jackets with cropped sleeves and military-inspired belted tweed vests; while transparent white layering mingled with fresh eye-popping hues of bright orange, electric blue, and spearmint – and occasionally pitch black – on elliptical shaped pleated silk patterns that adorned sleeveless, slender dresses. Oversized pockets and perforated inlets on round jumpers and further loose-fit bombers came along with low-crotch pantsuits in monochrome shades of apple green, midnight blue, and transparent white.

Towards the end, McCartney added more chic to the sporty with faux-polka dresses, that suggested animal prints and diamond cut work embroidery in white and black silk organza that contrasted with the easy masculine attitude of the previous silhouettes.

Accessory wise, McCartney adorned her looks with roomy, utility bags with wide straps, oversized sunglasses and platform wedges in scuba or organic cotton.

With a bold yet relaxed summer collection – and the fact that the brand's sales increased 19 per cent last year – Stella McCartney has every reason to be happy. Now don't get off the Internet like her show-track suggested earlier this morning, but have a closer look at her runway pictures, it's worth it.
