It was game time for Tommy Hilfiger today at the Park Avenue Armory. Welcoming guests into the hall transformed into a mock stadium, the designer had the classic American prep he's known for and the luxury we all want in him. So after a bit of a photo maelstrom in the in-zone caused by a one Rita Ora and current beau Ricky Hilfiger, the countdown was on, the stadium style lights were up and it was time for kick off.
The collection to follow was the prep school life you always wanted. Prim school girl skirts done in a burgundy and cream color way, o-season ponchos in navy with gold buttons, and the most perfect of wedged booties. Flyaway skirts and varsity cardigans made it clear that these girls were on the cheerleading squad during the day, but lambskin jersey dresses with detailing inspired from the stitching on footballs made it clear that they were some of the most glamorous and fun once the sun went down.
It was really in the details though, the aforementioned jersey dresses done in leather, cute metallic Mary Janes (also perfect for evening of course) and even one dress option with a neckline that conjured thoughts of goal posts; cue the puns about fratty compatriots scoring from here. When Hilfiger took his run across the field after the models had retreated back into the Locker Room, a Patriots helmet tucked under his arm, it was clear the collection was a win for him. From the clutches celebrating the brand's 30th anniversary to the stadium coats and furs — Ora was wearing one when the designer gave her a kiss during the finale — that are going to be sidling up against some pretty tough competition from this season’s other shows, it was clear that this was all true sportswear, true American Prep and true to Tommy.
