What a journey the Hilfiger brand has had. From the menswear line opening in 1984 and its soaring success that bookmarked in 2006 when the company was sold, onto where we are today, a brand that’s been recapturing attention spans for a couple of seasons. With Peter Som designing and stylist Karl Templer consulting, a new, cooler breeze is blowing through Hilfiger towers. Opening the show was a plaid recast in pop pink and turquoise cut into a safari jacket’n’skirt combo, a neatly collared mac and shirt-dress ripe for the beach, country club or easy breezy barbeque. The delightful, simply cut mac was later repeated in citrus orange that clashed wonderfully with a coral pink, leather collar and gently sloping pockets. So far oh so chic, this show proved to be a treat from the get-go. A leather selection followed where block coloured pelts were buffed and minimally cut into simple shift skirts and jackets. A gathering of colourful stripes was deftly mutli-layered onto three quarter length trousers and tops with the show ending on striking jumpsuits and beach kaftans; the minimal, sleek cut continuing throughout. It’s a bright new day for the Hilfger brand, we’ll see you on the beach…
