What is up with all the palmtrees this season, they are everywhere at the Italian menswear shows! The last day of the menswear fashion week in Milan has started and we have already been propelled into a Californication worthy scenario. Malibu 1992 and Palm Angels have yet to showcase their respective men's and women's wear collections – which promise to be very Californian-flavored, to say the least – but the brands before them have already made a statement, showcasing their West Coast inspired offerings.
Palmtrees, deck chairs, a laid-back vibe, and some cool skater-meets-millennial-meets-surfer style outfits are setting the tone this season. Moncler Gamme Bleu, Salvatore Ferragamo, Fausto Puglisi, MSGM, Sunnei, Marcelo Burlon's County of Milan, Christian Pellizzari, newcomer Munsoo Kwon, DSquared2 and No.21, all gave a nod to beach boys, exotic travels and far-flung places, offering us a fresh spin on next summer's too-cool-for-school look. They all had a fresh attitude, one that’s epitomized by an easy-come-easy-go type of energy and an immediate passion that runs deep, embellished with urban flavored clashes and contrasts.
Our favorite picks fresh off the runway include Burlon's revisited Hawaiian shirts, Puglisi’s tie-dye tropical prints, Moncler's beach tartan looks, Pellizzari's floral printed shorts and sweatbands, Kwon's hobo mix-and-match, MSGM's fresh take on camouflage printed outerwear and Sunnei's already famous "TOMFOREVER" t-shirt – MySpace fans will agree on this one!
What is there left to say? We can already smell the fish tacos…California, here we come!
