Walter Van Beirendonck Menswear Fall Winter 2011 Paris

Fierce pastels! Following his SS11 defilé that was a visual delight of clashing, cotton plaid prints, Belgian designer Walter Van Bierendonck continues his always fun, always colourful, always creative vision with a collection named 'Hand On Heart'.

One after another, tall French models, all of African heritage walked thirty-two colourful looks that were anchored around suits in subtle shades of eggshell.

Malcolm X met Kanye West's entourage (the smash colour-box period not the current Dior suit make-over) evoked by bow-ties, cuffs peeping out from sleeves and the princely gait of the models who were all street cast with a particularly elegant physical quality in mind.

Next, puffa ponchos then jumpers and tailored coats that doubled as ponchos and sloppy Joe's that opened into poncho's (all 100% virgin wool), all of which built momentum to reveal the mighty body hugging, soft, wool-mix poncho (poncho's!) that resembled a giant ice-rocket popsicle. The model carried it off with ease and humour, never has a poncho looked more fly.

Next, an homage to Coco Chanel women's suit (an idea that also appeared on the Givenchy catwalk) opened for six heavy mid-length winter coats proposed in a variety of colours and made from a mix of wool and mohair.

WVB clothes are made in Italy, Belguim and the Netherlands.
